Harness racing is one of the most exciting sports events to watch. Whether one is an avid gambler with online betting, or just an all around fan of sports and horse racing, nothing is more exciting than watching the horses take that final turn, jockeys trailing shortly behind them in the harnesses. One may watch harness racing, thinking that the jockey plays little or no role, especially compared with other types of horseracing. In the case of Brian Sears, they would be completely wrong. When one thinks of harness racing, Brian Sears should immediately come to mind. Brian Sears was born into a horse-racing family, with both his father and grandfather winning over 1000 races each. From the start of his career to the present, Sears has won over $61 million, with over 5,750 career wins. In 2005, Sears became the first driver to earn $15 million in one year, topping the old record of $14.1 million set by John Campbell in 2001.
Perhaps a more impressive record is one that Sears again stole from John Campbell. In 2006, Sears broke the Meadowlands record that Campbell set in 1986 by winning at least one race in 48 consecutive programs. With records such as these to tout, it is no wonder that Brian Sears is one of the most celebrated harness jockeys in the history of racing. Colleague Mike Lachance had the following to say about Sears. "Confidence is the key,” Lachance said. “You start to win, and it builds up. Brian, he's awfully tough to beat in the stretch now, sharp, super sharp. It makes it difficult to get by them when they're going so well”. If you’ve ever placed a bet on a horse before, you know it is not an exact science. It is so difficult to make the right choice, time and time again. If you ever have the chance to bet on a horse Brian Sears is driving, take it. You’ll win more often than not.
