Many moons ago when I first became a stay at home mom I came to realize what a clean home environment would really mean to my family's well being. At that time my normal cleaning routine was to dust, vacuum, change the bedding, clean the bathrooms and wash the floors with some name brand chemically enhanced cleaners about once a week in general.

In no time I became annoyed at the fact that after one or two days the house looked like I had done nothing. The countertops felt gritty and the windows and mirrors looked streaky and I could see dust on the floors and furniture all too soon. The house did not have a clean fresh look or smell to it the way I wanted it to. My mom said that was because the type of cleaning I was doing wasn't thorough enough. She called a "spit and shine" type of clean, meaning it looked good on the surface but it wasn't a deep clean. So I decided that I needed to clean more often.

Well as a result of cleaning from the top to bottom of the house more often my hands and fingernails began to crack, peel and became very sore. My hands were so sore I could hardly stand putting them in water at all. In addition, my other allergies began to bother me as well. I thought that was the cost of being a stay at home mom and working hard to keep my family's home clean. I thought, "It just goes with the territory".

When my children were about two and six years of age we moved into a newly built home. Everything was new. We had new furniture, new carpets, the entire house was newly painted and the yard did not have grass yet, just dirt. I had a lot of work to do and a lot of cleaning.

I never realized in a brand new home there would be so much dust just from the building alone and that it would stay around for a long time. The new carpets held that dust while at the same time they released a new chemical smell. The yard had no grass so there was nothing there to hold the dirt down when the wind blew. Therefore the dirt blew into the house somehow whenever the wind kicked up. The children continually tracked dirt in from the outdoors. Even the grout in the kitchen began to darken as a result of laying newspaper on the tile floor to help clean up after our new puppy.

Soon my attention was taken away from the cleaning issues when the children and I became more involved in activities like school, sports, scouting and PTA. In no time I was back to the "spit and shine cleaning" routine much to my displeasure.

It was about that time that I noticed I wasn't feeling well. My sinuses were congested and had constant infections. Eventually, I had no chose but to submit to a sinus operation to try and alleviate this situation. Also, my daughter began suffering from allergies and started an allergy shot regimen. Upon speaking to the allergist I learned my daughter's worst allergy was from dust mites, dog hair and grasses. After looking around the house I realized all that dust was not only in the carpet and vents but also on her stuffed animals, on her bedding and mattress and curtains. It was throughout the entire house.

Finally I realized that this could not go on any longer. My husband and I investigated alternate means of cleaning to get our family some relief from our reactions to chemicals and dust and to also find a more effective and efficient means of cleaning. We soon discovered steam cleaners.

I can honestly say that a steam cleaner was the best home cleaning appliance that we have ever purchased. It cleans, disinfects, and kills dust mites, viruses even flees and bed bugs on contact. Since steam cleaners use only water and no chemical based cleaners to clean my hands and sinuses haven't bothered me once I began using my steam cleaner and my daughter's allergies have improved significantly. The house stays cleaner longer, looks cleaner, feels cleaner and even smells clean. The smells of chemicals and fragrances have been replaced with a fresh clean smell.

The more we use our steam cleaner the more uses we discover for it. Almost all the surfaces in our house can be cleaned and disinfected with our steam cleaner without the need for chemical-based cleaners. My steam cleaner has worked wonders for my family and I and I highly recommend giving one a try.
